Qos Distribution Monitoring for Performance Management in Multimedia Networks Qos Distribution Monitoring for Performance Management in Multimedia Networks

چکیده
In multimedia networks, performance management is required to ensure that the agreed quality of service (QoS) is sustained. To detect possible QoS degradation and locate the cause of the degradation, end-to-end QoS monitoring is not sufficient. Instead, QoS distribution, the distribution of QoS experienced by a real-time flow in different network segments, should be monitored. However, few of current monitoring systems can provide QoS distribution monitoring. This paper presents two schemes, relevant monitor (RM) based and improved relevant monitor (IRM) based, for QoS distribution monitoring. With these schemes, when monitoring a real-time flow, a network manager can locate relevant monitors that are metering the flow. By retrieving and consolidating traffic information from these monitors embedded in different network segments, not only the end-toend QoS but also QoS distribution of the flow are derived. In addition, with the IRM-based scheme, QoS distribution monitoring can be performed in multiple network management domains. In this paper, CORBA-based implementation for the IRM-based scheme is also introduced to show its feasibility.

متن کاملMonitoring QoS distribution in multimedia networks
Introduction P roviding quality of service (QoS) guarantees is an important requirement for multimedia networks. To maintain agreed QoS, it is not sufficient to just commit resources because QoS degradation can be caused by many factors and is often unavoidable, e.g. any fault or weakening of the performance of a network element may result in the degradation of contracted QoS. Thus, performance...
متن کاملA Fuzzy Based Approach for Rate Control in Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks
Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks (WMSNs) undergo congestion when a link (or a node) becomes overpopulated in terms of incoming packets. In WMSNs this happens especially in upstream nodes where all incoming packets meet and directed to the sink node. Congestion in networks, if not handled properly, might lead to congestion collapse which deteriorates the quality of service (QoS). Therefore, i...
متن کاملQoS for multimedia on the Internet
The growth of multimedia on the Internet is evidently increasing. The advances in the video compression (e.g., H.263) and audio compression (e.g., G.729) that enables transmitting video and audio streams over low speed links, and the vast growth of palm and ubiquitous computing create a strong motivation and new challenges for wireless multimedia. On the other hand, providing high bandwidth hig...
متن کاملProviding quality of service monitoring: challenges and approaches
Future integrated services networks will need to provide quality of service (QoS) guarantees to multimedia applications. To ensure that the contracted QoS is sustained, it is not sufficient to just commit resources. QoS monitoring is required to detect and locate the degradation of QoS performance. In addition, the distribution of QoS, instead of simply end-to-end QoS, needs to be monitored. In...
